Elections for the [[Nauru Local Government Council|Local Government Council]] were held in [[Nauru]] in late 1959.<ref name=NV2>Nancy Viviani (1970) ''Nauru: Phosphate and Political Progress'' Australian National University Press, p150</ref> Seven of the nine incumbent councillors were re-elected  and [[Hammer DeRoburt]] was re-elected as Head Chief by the Council.<ref name=NV2/>
==Background==
Of the eight constituencies, four of them had contested elections. The nominees in the remaining constituencies won by default.
