==Playing career==
After playing for [[Halterworth Primary School|Halterworth]] and [[The Mountbatten School And Language College|Mountbatten]] school teams, Cook gained representative honours for Eastleigh and Winchester Schools, and Hampshire Schools, before signing as a trainee at [[Southampton F.C.|Southampton]] in 1985. He signed full professional terms in July 1987, and made his full first-team debut at home to [[Manchester United F.C.|Manchester United]] on 15 August that year.<ref name = ITN>{{cite book| title=In That Number – A post-war chronicle of Southampton FC |last= Holley |first= Duncan |author2= Chalk, Gary |publisher=Hagiology Publishing | year=2003 | isbn=0-9534474-3-X|page=498}}</ref>
Having only played 22 first-team games in all competitions, and scoring one goal, and failing to settle into a regular first-team slot at either left-back or left-midfield, Cook signed for [[Exeter City F.C.|Exeter City]] (then managed by former Southampton player [[Alan Ball, Jr.|Alan Ball]]) in September 1991<ref name = ITN/>  for a fee of about £50,000.
Cook's nomadic career has subsequently taken him to [[Swansea City A.F.C.|Swansea City]], [[Portsmouth F.C.|Portsmouth]], [[Millwall F.C.|Millwall]], and, lastly, [[Salisbury City F.C.|Salisbury City]].
==Career as physiotherapist==
He retired at the end of the 2005–06 season, becoming Salisbury's Football in the Community Officer. He then became manager of the club's reserve team before becoming part of City's physio staff.
