Antoine Bohier Du Prat was born in [[Issoire]], ca. 1460, the son of Austremoine Bohier, [[baron]] of [[Saint-Ciergues]], and Anne Du Prat.<ref name=Dictionary>[http://www2.fiu.edu/~mirandas/bios1517.htm#Bohier Biographical Dictionary of the Cardinals of the Holy Roman Church]</ref>  He was the cousin of Cardinal [[Antoine Duprat]].<ref name=Dictionary />
He entered the [[Order of Saint Benedict]] at [[Fécamp Abbey]].<ref name=Dictionary />  There, he was [[Holy Orders|ordained]] as a [[Priesthood (Catholic Church)|priest]].<ref name=Dictionary />  He became a president of the ''[[Parlement of Rouen]]''.<ref name=Dictionary />
He resisted being raised to the episcopate until the [[queen mother]] of [[Kingdom of France|France]], [[Louise of Savoy]], personally entreated him.<ref name=Dictionary />  After he agreed, on 13 November 1514, he was elected [[Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Bourges|Archbishop of Bourges]].<ref> Les Ordinations Épiscopales, Year 1514, Number 40</ref><ref name=Dictionary />  On 22 November 1514 he was granted permission to wear the [[Religious habit]] of a secular archbishop rather than the habit of the Benedictine Order.<ref name=Dictionary />  He was Archbishop of Bourges until his death.<ref name=Dictionary />
[[Pope Leo X]] made him a [[cardinal priest]] in the [[Papal consistory|consistory]] of 1 April 1517.<ref name=Dictionary />  On 27 April 1517, he was granted permission to wear a cardinal's habit instead of the habit of his order.<ref name=Dictionary />  He received the [[Galero|red hat]] and the [[titular church]] of [[Basilica di Sant'Anastasia al Palatino|Sant'Anastasia]] on 25 May 1517.<ref name=Dictionary />
