On the morning of February 22, 2024, three [[Palestinians|Palestinian]] gunmen opened fire at the [[az-Za'ayyem]] checkpoint in the Olive Interchange on [[Highway 1 (Israel–Palestine)|Highway 1]], killing an Israeli citizen and injuring eleven others. == Attack ==
On the morning of February 22, 2024, three gunmen arrived by car from at the [[az-Za'ayyem]] checkpoint; two were brothers from the [[Ta'amreh]] tribe in the [[Bethlehem|Bethlehem district]], and the third man was from [[Za'atara]], also in the Bethlehem area. They emerged from the vehicle with firearms, and fired automatic weapons at cars stuck in a traffic jam near the checkpoint. According to the [[State of Israel|Israeli]] Police, two of the gunmen were killed by civilians and security personnel at the scene, and the other was killed by security forces at the scene after he attempted to flee.<ref name=":0" />
