Bătrâna is located in the western part of Hunedoara County, about {{cvt|53|km}} southwest of the county seat, [[Deva, Romania|Deva]], on the border with [[Timiș County]]. It is situated in a mountainous landscape north of the [[Poiana Ruscă Mountains]], at an altitude of {{cvt|960|m}}. The river [[Ciorman]] flows through the Răchițaua and Piatra villages, discharging into the river [[Dobra (Mureș)|Dobra]] near Bătrâna.
