'''''Backspacer''''' is the second and final studio album by [[New Zealand]] rock band [[Supergroove]], released on 19 September 1996. It was released in 1996 by [[RCA Records]]. Before recording, creative differences saw vocalist [[Che Fu|Che Ness]] and trumpeter Tim Stewart fired from the band.<ref>{{Cite web|url=https://www.stuff.co.nz/entertainment/41008/Che-Fu-fired-up-and-ready-to-Supergroove|title=Che Fu fired up and ready to Supergroove|date=31 January 2009}}</ref> The album is musically very different from their first, being less funk and more straight rock, with a darker and more melancholy feeling in songs like "Dear Mother (Don't Let Me Go)", "This Stupid Grin" and "The Decline and Fall of Us Both."
Supergroove toured the album without [[Che Fu|Che Ness]] but due to poor reception and sales of the record and without Che Ness, Supergroove broke up soon after in 1997.
Three singles were released from the album, "[[Only Ever You]]", "If I Had My Way" (a top 10 hit) and "[[5th Wheel]]".

Across the globe, the album received a poor review in Norway's largest newspaper ''[[Verdens Gang]]''. Giving it a [[dice throw (review)|dice throw]] of 3 out of 6, the reviewer stated that ''Backspacer'' lacked "the same drive and energy" as ''Traction'', and that the songwriting was "middle of the road".<ref>{{cite news|title=Skuffer|trans-title=Disappoints|author=Hansen, Espen A.|work=Verdens Gang|date=9 October 1996|page=51|language=no}}</ref>
