According to the [[United States Census Bureau]], the township has a total area of {{convert|35.5|sqmi|km2}}, all land.

As of the [[census]]<ref name="GR2" /> of 2000, there were 1,213 people, 470 households, and 343 families residing in the township.  The population density was {{convert|34.1|PD/sqmi|PD/km2|sp=us|adj=off}}.  There were 515 housing units at an average density of {{convert|14.5|/sqmi|/km2|sp=us|adj=off}}.  The racial makeup of the township was 94.56% [[White (U.S. Census)|White]], 0.25% [[African American (U.S. Census)|African American]], 0.82% [[Native American (U.S. Census)|Native American]], 0.25% [[Asian (U.S. Census)|Asian]], 1.73% from [[Race (United States Census)|other races]], and 2.39% from two or more races. [[Hispanic (U.S. Census)|Hispanic]] or [[Latino (U.S. Census)|Latino]] of any race were 4.12% of the population.
There were 470 households, out of which 32.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 60.0% were [[Marriage|married couples]] living together, 8.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 27.0% were non-families. 23.6% of all households were made up of individuals, and 10.9% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. In the township the population was spread out, with 26.0% under the age of 18, 6.7% from 18 to 24, 28.1% from 25 to 44, 24.7% from 45 to 64, and 14.5% who were 65 years of age or older.  The median age was 39 years. For every 100 females, there were 107.7 males.  For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 105.0 males.
The median income for a household in the township was $37,583, and the median income for a family was $46,346. Males had a median income of $31,181 versus $24,028 for females.
