Aschoff was born in [[Göttingen]] on 26 April 1900.<ref name=":0" /> From 1921 to 1923 she attended the Kunstakademie in [[Stuttgart]]<ref>{{cite journal|journal=Calligraphy Review|title=Reflections on visual/verbal fusion|year=1990|volume=8|issue=1|pages=16–24|last=Wolf |first=Arne}}</ref> where she studied calligraphy with {{illm|Friedrich Hermann Ernst Schneidler|de}} and bookbinding with Wilhelm Schlemmer. She also studied with and influenced the work of Mike Gold, a professional artist and calligrapher published in ''Calligraphy Review'' annual, ''Calligraphers Engagement Calendars'' and ''Greeting Card Design.''<ref>{{cite journal |last1=Foot |first1=Mirjam |title=The Olga Hirsch Collection of Decorated Papers |journal=The British Library Journal |date=1981 |volume=7 |issue=1 |pages=12–38 |jstor=42554129 }}</ref> She then lived in Freiburg where she had her own bookbinding workshop from 1928 to 1964.
