It is about {{convert|8|km|0}} east of [[Colchester]] and {{convert|15|km|0}} northwest of [[Clacton-on-Sea]]. The parish includes the settlements of Frating Green and Hockley.
The parish church (dedication not recorded) is now a private house. The living was a rectory shared with [[Thorrington]].
