In [[history|historical records]] the village was first mentioned in 1320. One of the oldest breweries in the country can be found there, Zapovca.

The municipality lies at an altitude of 462 metres and covers an area of 8.57&nbsp;km<sup>2</sup>. It has a population of about 1,080 people.
