It is part of the [[Zwickau (district)|Zwickau]] district.

Glauchau was founded by a colony of [[Sorbs]] and [[Wends]], and belonged to the lords of [[House of Schönburg|Schönburg]] as early as the 12th century.<ref name="EB1911">{{EB1911|inline=y|wstitle=Glauchau|volume=12|page=114}}</ref>
