==History==
The oldest known mention of the village comes from 1223, when it was part of [[Piast dynasty|Piast]]-ruled [[Kingdom of Poland (1025–1385)|Poland]].
In the 18th century, the village was annexed by [[Kingdom of Prussia|Prussia]], and from 1871 it was also part of Germany. In the late 19th century, it had a population of 728.<ref>{{cite book|author=<!--Staff writer(s); no by-line.--> |title=Słownik geograficzny Królestwa Polskiego i innych krajów słowiańskich, Tom V|year=1884|language=pl|location=Warsaw|page=212}}</ref> During the [[Third Silesian Uprising]], in 1921, the village was the site of a German massacre of captured Polish insurgents.<ref>{{cite web|url=http://opolskiszlakpowstan.pl/kedzierzyn-kozle/|title=Kędzierzyn-Koźle|website=Opolski Szlak Powstań|accessdate=15 May 2021|language=pl}}</ref> In 1936, the German administration renamed the village ''Lichtenforst'' to erase traces of Polish origin.
