A constitutional referendum was held in [[French Somaliland]] on 5 May 1946 as part of the wider [[May 1946 French constitutional referendum|French constitutional referendum]]. The proposed new constitution was rejected by 60% of voters in the territory,<ref>Sternberger, D, Vogel, B, Nohlen, D & Landfried, K (1969) ''Die Wahl der Parlamente: Band II: Afrika, Erster Halbband'', p630 {{in lang|de}}</ref> and 53% of voters overall.
