It is the seat of a [[Cantons of France|canton]].
After the [[Roman Empire|Roman]] city of [[Lescar|Benearnum]] (today's Lescar) was razed by the [[Viking]]s in 841, Morlaàs became the capital of the ancient province of [[Béarn]].
