The house was built during the 17th century by ''Maazi'' [[Okoroji Oti]], a local chief and slave merchant, who was active during the [[Atlantic slave trade|trans-atlantic slave trade]].<ref name="nation"/> The house is made of [[mud]] while its roof is made of [[Zinc aluminium|aluminium zinc]]. The interior showcases various sacred shrine objects, historical [[Artifact (archaeology)|artifacts]], slave chains, brass [[Manilla (money)|manillas]], swords and guns.<ref name="Dmochowski1990">{{cite book|author=Zbigniew R.
