''Atair'' measures {{convert|75|m|ft}} long, {{convert|16.8|m|ft}} wide, and has a draft of {{convert|5|m|ft}}.<ref name="ms"/>  She is powered by three [[Wärtsilä]] engines, two of which are [[liquefied natural gas|LNG]]-capable, that give her a service speed of up to {{convert|13|kn|kph}} through a single propeller.<ref name="ms"/>  ''Atair'' is the first research vessel in the world to have an LNG-fueled propulsion system.<Ref name="mj"/>  The crew complement is 18 sailors, with accommodations for up to 15 researchers.<Ref name="st"/> Scientific facilities on board include several types of [[sonar]], laboratories, rigging to support the deployment of off-vessel equipment, and deck space to house additional temporary equipment.<ref name="st"/>
