The RFDG launched a [[RFDG Insurgency|series of attacks]] against Guinean government forces from its base located in [[Liberia]] on September 11, 2000.  The Guinean state forces launched a counteroffensive against the RFDG and Liberian forces on September 22.  Heavy fighting lasted through March 2001.  An [[ECOWAS]] meeting in April 2001<ref>{{cite journal|doi=10.1111/1467-825X.00129 | volume=38 | title=Africa Research Bulletin: Political, Social and Cultural Series, April 1st-30th 2001 Published May 31st 2001 | journal=Africa Research Bulletin: Political, Social and Cultural Series | year=2001 | issue=4 | pages=14359–14394}}</ref> was able to prevent this conflict from escalating into a full-scale war between Guinea and Liberia, and was able to end the [[civil war]] between RFDG and the Guinean state.
