'''Tricht''' is a village in the [[Netherlands|Dutch]] province of [[Gelderland]]. It is a part of the municipality of [[West Betuwe]], and lies about 10&nbsp;km west of [[Tiel]].
==History==
It was first mentioned in 1108 as Treth, and means ferry (Latin: [[:wikt:traiectus|traiectus]]).<ref>{{cite web|url=https://etymologiebank.nl/trefwoord/tricht2 |title=Tricht - (geografische naam) |website=Etymologiebank |access-date=24 March 2022 |language=nl}}</ref> Two centres developed perpendicular to the [[Dyke (embankment)|dike]] on the [[Waal (river)|Waal River]]. The tower of the Dutch Reformed Church dates from around 1400. The church itself is from the late 15th century. Crayestein is a medieval castle, however only the 17th century gate remains. On 25 June 1967, Tricht was hit by a [[tornado]], destroying part of the town and killing 5 of its inhabitants; 32 people were wounded.
