Vamadeva was a descendant of [[Amshuverma]] belonging to the ''Vaishya Thakuris''.{{Sfn|Regmi|1965|p=140}}{{Sfn|Petech|1984|p=48}} In {{Circa|1083}}, Vamadeva, along with the help of Thakuris of Patan and Jivas of Udaypur, dethroned [[Shankaradeva (Thakuri dynasty)|Shankaradeva]] and made himself the king.{{Sfn|Petech|1984|p=48}}{{Sfn|Regmi|1965|p=141}} It is believed that a similar act was performed with the ancestors of Vamadeva by [[Bhaskaradeva]], an ancestor of the preceding monarch.{{Sfn|Regmi|1971|p=206}}
