The '''Volchya''' ({{langx|fi|Saijanjoki (Saejoki, Sadejoki, Suenjoki, Sudenjoki)}}; {{langx|ru|Волчья}}) is a [[tributary]] of the [[Vuoksi]] on the [[Karelian Isthmus]] ([[Leningrad Oblast]], [[Russia]]) {{convert|0.25|to|12|km|mi}} west of the [[Saint Petersburg-Hiitola railroad]] (along the section between the stations [[Vaskelovo]] and [[Losevo, Leningrad Oblast|Losevo]]) and flowing northwards from the Lembolovo Heights. It is {{convert|50|km}} long, and has a [[drainage basin]] of {{convert|460|km2}}.<ref name=gvr>{{GVR|153061|Река Волчья (Сайян-йоки)}}</ref> Its major tributaries are in turn the Smorodinka (right, {{langx|fi|Tungelmanjoki}}; {{langx|ru|Смородинка}}), the Belaya (left, {{langx|fi|Valkjoki}}; {{langx|ru|Белая}}), the Goryunets (left, {{langx|ru|Горюнец}}) and the Petrovka (right, {{langx|fi|Petäjoki, Petojoki, Peto-oja}}; {{langx|ru|Петровка}}). The Volchya River's width is about {{convert|10|m|ft|0}} in the lower reaches, where it flows in a narrow valley, with [[meander]]s and [[oxbow lake]]s. The Volchya is shallow and unavailable for navigation (except for [[canoeing]] in some places)
The river is crossed by the [[Sosnovo, Leningrad Oblast|Sosnovo]] ({{langx|fi|Rautu}}) – [[Pervomayskoye, Leningrad Oblast|Pervomayskoye]] ({{langx|fi|Kivennapa}}) road on Lembolovo Heights, Sosnovo – Borisovo  ({{langx|fi|Nurmijärvi}}) – [[Michurinskoye, Leningrad Oblast|Michurinskoye]] ({{langx|fi|Valkjärvi}}) road at Razdolye ({{langx|fi|Mäkrälä}}) and by the Losevo ({{langx|fi|Kiviniemi}}) – Yagodnoye ({{langx|fi|Vaalimo}}) road at the lower portion of the river.
Since 1928 there is a little [[hydroelectric plant]] on the river not far from [[Petäjärvi]] (now Petrovskoye), which was the largest private hydroelectric facility in pre-[[Winter War]] [[Finland]] (owned by Leonard Sääksjärvi).[http://kannas.nm.ru/priozersk_district2.htm]
The entire river was a boundary between the [[Kingdom of Sweden]] and [[Novgorod Republic]] as defined in 1323 in the [[Treaty of Nöteborg]]. The higher reaches of the Saijanjoki (Volchya) to the south of the Tungelmanjoki (Smorodinka) and the Tungelmanjoki itself constituted part of the [[Russia]]-[[Finland]] border in 1811–1940. Now that stretch of the Volchya River divides [[Priozersky District|Priozersky]] and [[Vyborgsky District, Leningrad Oblast|Vyborgsky District]] from [[Vsevolozhsky District]], while the Smorodinka marks another part of the boundary between Priozersky District and Vsevolozhsky District.
The river was renamed from the Saijanjoki to the Volchya (lit. ''Wolf River'') in 1948, just like the vast majority of other Finnish [[hydronym]]s and [[toponym]]s on the territories ceded by Finland to the Soviet Union as a result of the [[Continuation War]].
