I have personally heard such claims about Tunisia, Sudan, the Gulf, Yemen, and so on. Such claims are nearly impossible to substantiate by lingustic evidence and are not taken seriously by linguists. The references given here are also not studies done by linguists and are therefore subjective. The claim is almost unprovable.
