Nowe Masiewo [ˈnɔvɛ maˈɕɛvɔ] is a village in the administrative district of Gmina Narewka, within Hajnówka County, Podlaskie Voivodeship, in north-eastern Poland, close to the border with Belarus.[1] It lies approximately 10 kilometres (6 mi) east of Narewka, 25 km (16 mi) north-east of Hajnówka, and 59 km (37 mi) south-east of the regional capital Białystok.

History

Following the joint German-Soviet invasion of Poland, which started World War II in September 1939, the village was first occupied by the Soviet Union until 1941, and then by Germany until 1944. In July 1941, the German Police Battalion 322 expelled the entire population, and then plundered and destroyed the village.[2] One man was murdered during the expulsion.[2] The purpose of the expulsion was to hinder the activities of the resistance movement in the area.[2] After the war the village was rebuilt.
