Basi (Chinese: 巴斯; pinyin: Bāsī; 1980 – 13 September 2017) was a female giant panda.[1][2] Since Jia Jia's death in 2016, she was the oldest living panda in captivity.[3][4] Basi was the original model of 'Panpan', the mascot for the first Asian games (in China, 1990). She died at 8:50am on September 13, 2017, at the age of 37.[5] The Straits Giant Panda Research and Exchange Center in Fuzhou, where she lived, held a memorial in her honour.[6]
