Calderas that were active in the Tertiary period (65 million years ago to 1.8 million years ago). 'Tertiary' is now deprecated by the International Commission on Stratigraphy as a formal geochronological unit, having been more recently split into the Paleogene period with the two most recent epochs reallotted to the Neogene period, but, as the term had a long history of use, it is still seen, especially in old vulcanology works, sometimes without specifying the epoch or time span.
