Godspeed (August Heart) is a fictional character appearing in American comic books published by DC Comics. He was established as a detective and one of Barry Allen's best friends on the police force. When his brother is murdered and the man he suspects is exonerated, he becomes vengeful and eventually gains speed-based superpowers. Donning the identity of Godspeed, he becomes a vigilante bent on killing criminals instead of incarcerating them, serving as an antithesis to the Flash. He has been portrayed as both a supervillain and an antihero in the comic books and adapted media since his introduction in 2016. The character made his live-action debut in The Flash, voiced by BD Wong in seasons five and six and portrayed by Karan Oberoi in seasons seven and nine.

Fictional character biography

August Heart is a colleague of Allen from the Central City Police Department.[1] His brother was murdered by a career criminal and his killer was let free due to the evidence being destroyed in a lightning strike. When August confronts Black Hole, a group who had stolen S.T.A.R. Labs equipment, he is struck by Speed Force lightning and transformed into a speedster.[2][3] Afterward, August attempts to become a superhero, being both an ally and enemy to the Flash due to his violent methods.[4][5][6] In Titans: Beast World, Godspeed is exposed to Beast Boy's spores and temporarily transformed into a humanoid wasp.[7]

Powers and abilities

In addition to abilities shared with other speedsters, Godspeed can steal the speed of others and clone himself by dividing the Speed Force.

In other media

August Heart / Godspeed appears in The Flash, portrayed by Kindall Charters in the fifth season, Ryan Handley in the sixth season, and Karan Oberoi in the seventh and ninth seasons, and voiced by BD Wong in the fifth and sixth seasons[8] and Rick D. Wasserman in the seventh season.[citation needed] This version is a scientist from the year 2049 whose abilities are derived from tachyon technology that replicates the effects of the Velocity drug. Following his introduction in his self-titled episode, Godspeed travels back in time to gain "infinite velocity", only to split into two warring drone factions while the prime Godspeed loses his memories. The drones battle until the prime Godspeed receives innate abilities from the Speed Force and absorbs them. He is defeated by the Flash and the Reverse-Flash, incarcerated, and loses his knowledge of the Flash's secret identity. In the series finale, Cobalt Blue recruits an alternate timeline variant of Godspeed who is later defeated by Virtue.
