Šlapanice (Czech pronunciation: [ˈʃlapaɲɪtsɛ]) is a town in Brno-Country District in the South Moravian Region of the Czech Republic. It has about 8,000 inhabitants.
Administrative parts
The village of Bedřichovice is an administrative part of Šlapanice.
Geography
Šlapanice is located about 4 kilometres (2 mi) east of Brno. It lies in the Dyje–Svratka Valley. The Říčka stream flows through the town.
History
The first written mention of Šlapanice is from 1235.[2]

Economy
The largest employer based in the town's territory is CCI Czech Republic, a branch of IMI plc. It produces valves for the oil, petrochemical and energy industries.[5]
Transport
The D1 motorway from Brno to Ostrava runs around the town. Šlapanice is located on the railway line Brno–Uherské Hradiště.[6]
Sights
The main landmark of Šlapanice is the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary. It was originally a medieval Gothic church, rebuilt in the Baroque style in the mid-18th century.[7]
