The 2001 New Mexico Lobos football team represented the University of New Mexico during the 2001 NCAA Division I-A football season. New Mexico competed as a member of the Mountain West Conference (MW), and played their home games in the University Stadium. The Lobos were led by fourth-year head coach Rocky Long. The Lobos defeated New Mexico State 53–0 in the Rio Grande Rivalry, which was their first shutout win in the rivalry since 1952.[1]
