- January 18 – 25: 2009 Bandy World Championship in Sweden Västerås
- Division A: File:Flag of Sweden.svg Sweden defeated File:Flag of Russia.svg Russia, 6–1, to win the Bandy World Championship title. File:Flag of Finland.svg Finland took the bronze medal.
- Division B: File:Flag of the United States.svg United States won the preliminary round and played a qualifying match against File:Flag of Belarus.svg Belarus for Division A, but lost 1–3, thus not replacing Belarus in Division A next year.
