The Bangladesh national badminton team (Bengali: বাংলাদেশ জাতীয় ব্যাডমিন্টন দল) represents Bangladesh in international badminton team competitions and is controlled by the Bangladesh Badminton Federation, the governing body for badminton in Bangladesh.[1] The Bangladeshi junior mixed team competed in the 2011 Asian Junior Badminton Championships.
Bangladesh has also participated in the South Asian Games. The men's team and women's team both achieved a semifinal bronze position in 2010 and 2016.
Badminton was introduced to Bangladesh in the 1900s by the British. At the time, the sport was only played throughout urban areas.[2] In 1972, the Bangladesh Badminton Federation was formed and the sport started to gain popularity. The national team competed in one of their first international team events at the 2004 South Asian Games.
Men's team
The Bangladeshi men's team first competed in the 2004 South Asian Games but were eliminated in the quarter-finals. In 2010, the team competed at the 2010 South Asian Games as host team and finished in third place.[3][4] The team were eliminated semi-finals at the next edition of the South Asian Games in 2016 after losing 3–0 to Sri Lanka.[5]
