Sigma Alpha Epsilon was established at the University of Alabama on March 9, 1856, and has since grown to be an international fraternity. In the following list, active chapters are indicated in bold and inactive chapters are in italics.[1][2][3]

- ↑ This school was established in 1806 as Cumberland College. It changed its name to the University of Nashville in 1826. In 1875 a financial crisis resulted in the school splitting into three entities: a preparatory school that exists today, the medical school which soon merged into Vanderbilt University, and the main, collegiate program, which was named the Peabody Normal School. After another financial crisis, in 1979, Peabody merged with Vanderbilt.
