Patrick Sergeant
Sir Patrick John Rushton Sergeant (17 March 1924 – 18 September 2024) was a British journalist, investor and businessman who was the founder of Euromoney Institutional Investor. Previously, he served as the City Editor of the Daily Mail from 1960 to 1984.[1]
Early life and education
Patrick Sergeant was born on 17 March 1924 in King's Down, Kent.[2] He attended Beaumont College.[2]
Career
Sergeant served in Royal Navy before joining Mullens & Co.[2] In 1948, he joined News Chronicle as a reporter.[2] From 1960 to 1984, he was the City Editor of the Daily Mail.[2] Later, he served as a director of Daily Mail and General Trust Plc from 1992 to 2004.[3] He announced his retirement from the board of Euromoney in 2018.[4]
Personal life and death
Sergeant lived in The Grove, Highgate from 1961.[5][6] His daughter, Emma Sergeant (born 1959), is an artist[7] and is married to Adam Zamoyski.[citation needed] Sergeant turned 100 on 17 March 2024,[5] and died on 18 September.[8]
