A waiters' race is a race that tests the speed that a waiter can carry a loaded tray without tipping it.

Origin of the waiters race

Though details of the first waiters' races are dubious, they originated in France (called "course des garçons de café").[citation needed] Archive footage shows early waiters' races in Paris, London and Berlin at the beginning of the 20th century.[1] Waiters races were first organized to bring recognition to the waiter profession in Paris.[2] The events often remain associated with French culture, with organizers scheduling some races on Bastille Day.[3][4]
